First week

Summing up the first week -- sorry for the boring details! It's still difficult, but I'm making progress. Muscles still hurt, but different ones now, and maybe not so much -- except my back. That seems to be a constant. That's better than blisters though! Walking in socks or my Vibram 5-fingers. Day one  - I already wrote about - pedometer says 1959 steps, and maybe two miles total. Day two - 2645 steps:, no aerobic steps:, mileage: 1.08 Day three - 5232 steps:, no aerobic steps:, mileage: 2.14 Day four - 3770 steps:, no aerobic steps:, mileage: 1.54 Day five - 6215 steps:, 3061 aerobic steps:, mileage: 2.55 Day six - 5350 steps:, 2130 aerobic steps:, mileage: 2.79 Day seven - 3062 steps:, no aerobic steps:, mileage: 1.25 (I was at the hospital with my dad most of the day, and came home exhausted.) Oh, and weight: added two pounds! Doesn't seem right. 239. The figures don't always make sense, and the trend isn't steadily upward, but I mea...

Day two.....Surfdesk!

Bleah. I'm tired, and my pedometer didn't work for the first couple of hours, so I only show 2650 steps. Maybe I walked two or three miles? Hard to say, and it was in little chunks, as I was constantly interrupted, or tired enough to stop. On the upside, I got the Surfdesk from Amazon today, and it works well! When I'm up to it, it will work for me. No way to use a mouse, though.

Treadmill arrives!

I could hardly sleep anticipating the arrival of my treadmill! It arrived in an enormous box, and thank goodness the price I paid included setup and removal of all that packing material. It is enormous, but fortunately folds up and is relatively easy to move. Bob of course had to try it out while I was eating my breakfast and drinking my coffee. I didn't trust myself to do those things yet, even at one mile per hour. I can type though, at that speed, and when I'm sharp, up to 1.2 mph. YAY! How can I do that, you say, with no desk yet? Fortunately I saw someone's creative use of a ironing board as a temporary desk on office-walkers.com, and it works well! I discovered I can read a book at about 2 mph, although it makes me dizzy to look up and around still. I don't know if that's lack of sleep, or the dizziness I felt last night every time I woke. I'm happy to say that it seems to be less tonight. I'm TIRED, after not much sleep and walking maybe one and o...

Wow, it's been awhile since I posted here. First I got bored of blogging about walking, and then I got bored of walking. Now I'm no longer satisfied to sit most of the time, and not be moving! A few months ago I came across an article about walking while working, and investigated that a bit. I mentioned it to Debs, who recommended Brain Rules , which I ordered from the library and read. The author, Dr. John Medina, discusses the research which indicates that since we evolved while walking, our brains and bodies work the best if we are moving most of the time. For more on that, see http://www.brainrules.net/ . So I've ordered a treadmill. I looked on Craigslist, but gosh there are a lot of them, and it seemed easier to just buy one new and have the guarantee in place. Plus, delivery and setup! I'm anxiously awaiting the email from Costco with a delivery day. Just can't wait! I ordered the XTerra TR6.55. Come quickly! Supposedly shipped by truck from Arkansas on...
