 And today, it was easy. 

Thank goodness, and I hope to see that continue. Persistence, stubbornness, -- whatever it takes.

Treadmill arrives!

I could hardly sleep anticipating the arrival of my treadmill! It arrived in an enormous box, and thank goodness the price I paid included setup and removal of all that packing material. It is enormous, but fortunately folds up and is relatively easy to move. Bob of course had to try it out while I was eating my breakfast and drinking my coffee. I didn't trust myself to do those things yet, even at one mile per hour. I can type though, at that speed, and when I'm sharp, up to 1.2 mph. YAY! How can I do that, you say, with no desk yet? Fortunately I saw someone's creative use of a ironing board as a temporary desk on office-walkers.com, and it works well! I discovered I can read a book at about 2 mph, although it makes me dizzy to look up and around still. I don't know if that's lack of sleep, or the dizziness I felt last night every time I woke. Progress

Wow, I've been neglecting this blog, and even record-keeping. It isn't fun to keep track of step-count, but I have been continuing to walk as much as I can. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to push to 10k steps on average. In fact, my average is maybe 4k, and it isn't going up. (But that is about 3500 more steps than I used to have. And I've lost about 7 pounds.) Perhaps it's because I'm spending more time cleaning house -- not sure. In any case, I'm not willing to back off on 'the great cleanup' no matter what, so until I'm done -- sometime this summer or fall, probably -- tough. I love making progress on the cleanup, so that comes first. (Once the house is clean, it will be easier to keep up. Also, vacuuming is good exercise. And banishing dust makes us healthier, and feel better.) On the other hand, as my dad continues to decline, it's important to continue to make progress physically as well as getting the house de-cluttered. So...

A bit of a rest?

No reports for awhile. First I put my shorts in the wash with my step-meter in the pocket! Saved it by taking it apart and letting it dry, but now the time is wonky. Then I was traveling, which meant a day or so of hardly any steps, then loads (13000 the day we spent walking around Geneva), then not many on the train, and so forth. Saving grace: Haus Randa has lots of stairs, and our room was at the top! So every meal, and every cup of coffee, and every beer -- five flights down, five flights up! I never did get to run all the way to the top without stopping to catch my breath. In fact, I couldn't even walk up without catching my breath. Still, it was some exercise. (4-6000 steps per day). Little to no jetlag, so I did do some running, but not so much. Now the battery is running low, and I leave in a few days for Vienna, so it's time to report before it resets again: Thurs. 28 Aug: 2407 (1415), 11 mins. 1.1 miles.
