Difficult week, and no run today

 

Last week of January 2025

  • 26th: 2 miles
  • 27: 0.5 + 1.5 = 1.75 2 miles
  • 28: 0.8 (just over 3 laps at 3.1mph
  • 29: 1.9 + 1.8? - no idea why there are different figures, but probably just under 2 miles. 
  • 30: 1.1
  • 31: could not run. 

The month ends with Angel's birthday, and beginning last night, I was overcome with sorrow, missing my mom, and Angel, and everyone else I've lost. Marianne Faithful died, and I could not help thinking of Carol -- she would know about the end of that era when we were so young.

I'm still alive and kicking though, and running. Keep on keeping on.

Treadmill arrives!

I could hardly sleep anticipating the arrival of my treadmill! It arrived in an enormous box, and thank goodness the price I paid included setup and removal of all that packing material. It is enormous, but fortunately folds up and is relatively easy to move. Bob of course had to try it out while I was eating my breakfast and drinking my coffee. I didn't trust myself to do those things yet, even at one mile per hour. I can type though, at that speed, and when I'm sharp, up to 1.2 mph. YAY! How can I do that, you say, with no desk yet? Fortunately I saw someone's creative use of a ironing board as a temporary desk on office-walkers.com, and it works well! I discovered I can read a book at about 2 mph, although it makes me dizzy to look up and around still. I don't know if that's lack of sleep, or the dizziness I felt last night every time I woke. Friday: 11,096 / 9947; 4.5 miles

Tired and sad when I set off, so I didn't actually care that I came in under but oh so close to 10K, LOL! Almost made it, and that was good enough for today. I walked to the school through the woods, and then on the road up to the beginning of the Ridge road. I think next time I walk the ridge, I'll walk from the school over the ridge and back. That should get me just over 10K steps, AND get all that nice hill walking. It's harder, but better, I think. Feet are somewhat better today, but everything is still sore, every day. So I've gotta be doing some muscle-building. :-) Total steps: 11,096, aerobic 9947 in 90 minutes; 4.55 miles.

Progress

Wow, I've been neglecting this blog, and even record-keeping. It isn't fun to keep track of step-count, but I have been continuing to walk as much as I can. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to push to 10k steps on average. In fact, my average is maybe 4k, and it isn't going up. (But that is about 3500 more steps than I used to have. And I've lost about 7 pounds.) Perhaps it's because I'm spending more time cleaning house -- not sure. In any case, I'm not willing to back off on 'the great cleanup' no matter what, so until I'm done -- sometime this summer or fall, probably -- tough. I love making progress on the cleanup, so that comes first. (Once the house is clean, it will be easier to keep up. Also, vacuuming is good exercise. And banishing dust makes us healthier, and feel better.) On the other hand, as my dad continues to decline, it's important to continue to make progress physically as well as getting the house de-cluttered. So...
