Looking back

10 years ago, I was really committed to walking, and started this blog. Lots of things happened, and I stopped.

Something lit a fire in me as 2024 was drawing to a close. At that point, I had about six more months of my term as president of SKCGS, and two more as vice-president of both the state society WASGS and the Seattle Black Genealogy Research Group, BGSG. I was getting deeper into my McBee research, and thinking about the outlines of the book, and thinking about the travel needed to complete the research.

Ozempic was certainly helping me drop off the weight, but I was losing muscle too, and sitting at the computer was getting more and more uncomfortable.

Sitting on bare butt-bones is no fun! And walking around the neighborhood was not enough; walking more in general takes more time than I wanted to budget. Running seemed like the obvious answer, and we have a treadmill.

So I started running at 3 mph about 2 miles per day, I think back in November. Say 20-25 miles per week; probably closer to 20. I'm going to try to tote up the stats I have and estimate how I've been doing. Very rough for those months of incomplete stats.

Nov. 2024: ~90 miles, 3 mph.

Dec. 2024: about the same, ~90 @ 3 mph.

Jan 2025: 16.5 miles @ 3 mph + 18 miles @ 3.1 mph.

Total January mileage: 35.5. I trust the figures here more than anything from last year, which could be off by half.
